JOB SUMMARY
This is an exciting opportunity to support the Rio Ferdinand Foundation team in delivering its cross-border PEACE Academy programme, funded by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB) through the PEACEPLUS programme.
The aim of this new three-year programme is to deliver and evidence a PEACE Academy pathway of engagement, learning, social action and employability. The programme aims to inspire young people from all communities across Northern Ireland and Ireland to create shared experiences and build a long-term response to sectarianism, racism and hate on a cross-community and cross-border basis.
You will be responsible for helping to deliver a diverse range of youth projects, with key responsibilities around session development and face-to-face delivery with young people. Sessional Workers will also be expected to develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders and ensure that services for young people are delivered to the highest possible standards. We are particularly looking for staff who are available for:

ESSENTIAL
Ability to motivate and earn the respect of young people
Belief in young people and in helping them to take more active roles in their communities
An interest in youth work and community sports coaching
Experience of and a passion for youth work and delivering exciting and challenging activities
A commitment to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion
Extensive knowledge of East Belfast in particular and wider Belfast communities generally
DESIRABLE
FA Level 1 or 2 Football Coaching Certificate
Youth work qualification or relevant experience
Experience of sports coaching in a community setting.
Experience of delivering youth projects using a range of tools, e.g. music, media and the arts
Experience of supporting young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Experience of supporting vulnerable young people from diverse backgrounds.
DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Work with the PEACE Academy Team to deliver community sports sessions and projects across East Belfast, ensuring they are delivered to the highest standard.
Positively engage with a variety of target groups, including young people facing disadvantage, young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) or those at risk of becoming NEET, young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), as well as young people with refugee and asylum seeker status.
Support the delivery of motivational and inspirational sessions that lead to positive outcomes for young people.
Assist the Session Lead and Head of Programmes to plan and develop new sessions, as well as develop existing ones.
KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the team to deliver a range of youth work activities using sports, arts, media or music to engage young people from diverse backgrounds.
Assist the Lead Worker in the set-up, delivery and pack-down of high-quality sessions that meet the needs and interests of young people and support the project aims and objectives.
Act as a positive role model for young people in your sessions and build positive relationships with them.
Provide practical, empathetic support and encouragement to young people through personal development plans, mentoring and group work, which advances achievement and supports young people to realise their potential.
Help to identify issues affecting young people’s ability to maximise their futures and provide tailored support to assist them in overcoming these barriers.
Ensure that session registers and monitoring forms are completed and stored securely in line with the Foundation’s policies.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work flexibly where appropriate on evenings, weekends and during school holidays to ensure full and supportive delivery of the programme.
Undertake training in order to develop work-related skills and knowledge.
Work with due regard for RFF’s core values and objectives.
Ensure the effective implementation of, and adherence to, the organisation’s safeguarding, equal opportunities and health and safety policies and procedures.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
The below are preferred but not essential, as training can be provided by the Rio Ferdinand Foundation.
Valid First Aid certificate
Safeguarding certificate
The post holder will be required to undergo an AccessNI check.
