Exclusive Sports Leadership Programme Set for Delivery in Tameside
Starting this August, a group of aspiring community leaders will be embarking on a six-week programme in Tameside, Manchester, to learn how to design, coach, and deliver football sessions.
Funded by Findel and in partnership with Prime Action Communications (PAC), the sessions continue our collective commitment to improving the lives of young people within Greater Manchester, providing them with opportunities and professional training to further both their personal and professional skills.
These two-hour-long sessions will see eight young people deliver weekly football activities to up to thirty young people from the local area, providing summer provision, challenges, football coaching and a safe space to interact with youth workers from both the Rio Ferdinand Foundation and PAC.
The sessions will provide a real-life environment for the young people to learn and experience the skills needed to become a coach and leader within their community, while also working towards completing a Level 1 Community Sports Leaders Award, a nationally recognised, accredited qualification.
Following the completion of the project, all young people involved will have exclusive access to a local football stadium and its facilities, as well as the opportunity to meet staff from the football industry for expert knowledge sharing and to receive exclusive tips and experiences that will help guide their future career journeys.
Ahead of the programme launch, Lead Manchester Youth Worker, Ryan Hunt, of the Rio Ferdinand Foundation, said:
“Projects like this are hugely important for both the young people getting involved, but also the long-term impact on the local community. These young people will have a fantastic team around them every week to help them learn and develop a hugely important set of skills that will benefit them in many capacities.
In turn, the community will inherit a pipeline of future coaches, mentors and leaders that will serve the local people. They will be invested in sport and youth provision within Ashton beyond the programme’s end and support the development of other young people along the way.”
Findel's Head of Colleague Communications & Business Support, Claire Gleave, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to support this initiative right here in our local community of Tameside. Not only is it giving young people valuable experiences, it’s helping them gain qualifications, get active, and build the networks that will support their future growth. By investing in their development, we’re helping to create opportunities that can make a lasting difference — for them and for our community.”
